Dawn Direct Foam

Dawn Direct FoamProctor & Gamble's biggest product launch in the dish washing soap category in the past several years is "Dawn® Direct Foam™". Announced last week, this new soap claims that it will prevent oil and grease from entering your washing sponge.

The company says that the new soap uses a high performance microemulsion technology that contains special solvents to absorb significant amounts of grease. A microemulsion is a thermodynamically stable dispersion of oil in water. "Micro" droplets of oil have ultra-high surface area and are capable of absorbing significant amounts of grease, allowing Dawn Direct Foam to absorb the grease, locking it into the foam, similar to the way a vacuum absorbs dirt.

P&G goes on to say that traditional dishwashing liquids merely lift and surround grease, and will redeposit it onto other dishes. With Dawn Direct Foam, the grease actually becomes part of the foam (much like sugar dissolved in coffee) and cannot be removed. Once trapped, grease washes away cleanly with no effort, so the sponge stays clean and no greasy residue remains on the dishes.

Bottles of Dawn Direct Foam come with a foaming pump dispenser. It should be on store shelves right now.

  • have been on treatment for Hep C for the past 6 months so the past few months my house cleaning as been a bare miniume. after my last bout of bed rest I went to the store and bought the Dawn Direct Foam. it took me 5 days to clean what should have taken 3 hours normally. this should give an idea of how sick and weak i've been. but after getting the Direct Foam I have not had a dirty dish in my kitchen for a full week it's awsome it does all it is said to do and my husband has even taken to washing his own dishes after 13 years of marriage this is a first. and my youngest actually asks to do dishes.. • I am using Dawn DirectFoam dishwashing foam and am pleased with the product. However, the spray bottle itself is troublesome. The white sprayer-top will sqooch down, but will not pop back up and it is aggravating to have to pull it up each time. Any help on this?????

  • Dawn Direct foam is great. We use it for baby bottles, nipples and the breast pump. Every new mother should know about this product. It should be marketed to new mothers and sold in the baby stores.

  • I don't have a "microemulsion" to make the Dawn Foam work as advertised, but here's what I do. I take an empty bottle of Dawn Direct Foam and make my own refill solution.

You need VERY LITTLE Dawn liquid detergent to fill your empty bottle! Try 1 tablespoon of Dawn detergent per bottle and then fill the rest up with water. Shake it up to get the solution mixed well and then let it sit for a little while. It seems to work perfectly for me and produces a LOT of foam.

If you use even a little bit too much Dawn Detergent, the foaming will be diminished.

Experiment a little bit and see how it works for you.

    Best wishes.

  • I can't believe I am sitting here writing about Dawn Direct. I have no idea why I am actually at this site, other than wanting to discover others who understand that Dawn is actually selling you watered down dish detergent. In order to make your own soap for the pump, use about 1 part any brand liquid dish soap (go to Costco and buy a large quantity for very little money) and mix with about 5 parts water....as one commenter said, experiment a little. As far as "microemulsion", that's what soap does naturally. They are just marketing to everyone in a "new", seemingly different way. I noticed absolutely no difference in characteristics between Dawn Direct soap, and my homemade version with Joy. I'm sure Dawn is laughing all the way to the bank on this one, selling the consumer lots 'o water! :)

  • I always my dishwashing liquid to shave with; but the Dawn Direct Foam smells so toxic I won’t use it.
If it is just a scent then WHY can’t they remove it!!!
