Baby Car Seat Cooler

Cold SeatHere's an idea that attempts to solve a valid problem, but seems destined for the garage sale, the "Cold Seat".

It's a baby car seat cover that contains gel packs. You store it in the refrigerator (as if we all have room in the fridge for something of this size), to keep it cold.

When you get in the car, you place the Cold Seat in a shady place, such as underneath your seat. When you reach your destination, you place the Cold Seat over the baby's car seat, to protect the belt buckles and other surfaces from heating up in the sun. Then when you return to the car, you remove the Cold Seat, and place your baby back into its seat.

You're not supposed to sit the baby on the Cold Seat itself.

Hence, what's the fricken point??

May as well just throw a blanket over the car seat. It'll do just as well to prevent stuff from getting too hot.

At prices that range anywhere from $50.00 to $70.00, it seems like a great way to separate moms from their money using the old "Isn't your baby worth it?" shtick.

  • I think your comments are a little ignorant and short sighted. I agree, if you live in Alaska this may not be the best use of your money. Living in Phoenix,Arizona where the temperatures reach in the 120's and remain above 100' for over 3 months and the inside of a parked car reaches 140', this car seat cooler has made a great difference for my child. Maybe next time you will not be so quick to judge.

  • When the metal buckles can burn my baby within ONE second--and no, a towel doesn't always do it--I think this is definately a great idea. I agree it's pricey, so I'll create my own for much less. If the heat outside is 120 degrees, the car inside is much hotter, it's like cooking a piece of metal in the oven. Would YOU want to touch that?

  • no longer a hot babe in phx!
this product is great. i have batteled this heat through my own children and delt with the occassional painful burn. now with my grandchild i have found the perfect solution. i wish someone would have thought of this 30 years ago!!!!

  • When you live in any of the southern states, you can understand why this is such a great product!! I have something similar for both of my childrens' car seats. The interior of cars can reach well over 200 degrees in Phx in summer. Not only can that burn your child when you put them in their seat, but it will keep your child hot on the ride home...the back seat isn't the coolest place in the car. If the car seat is cool, it helps a lot. You must not be a parent...I know that my child's safety and comfort is worth a little time reorganizing my fridge.

  • Yep! You sound like someone who doesn't live in place this product was created for! We live in Scottsdale and it's already getting hot enough for the buckles to burn my 10 moo. old's little legs! :(

  • I agree with the previous posters...if you live in the southern states you understand the need for this product!! I live in Tucson, but I'm from Washington, no I wouldn't need it in washington, but here it's a must!!!

  • Steve---

My guess is that 1. you're not a parent and 2. you live somewhere other than Phoenix.

  • I LOVE, LOVE this product and am going to get one for all of my friends with kids. It is supposed to be 114 degrees on Wednesday...I wish I had one for MY seat!

  • Another mom from Phoenix here...these are a MUST here. Obviously, you don't live in a hot weather state.

  • I can't say anything that the other commenter's already didn't!!!!

I don't think I'll pay the money. I'll just make my own.

Good for her....way to use your problem solving skills and bring in some cash!

  • You haven't also thought of kiddos who may have conditions where they don't have proper thermoregulation like my little girl with ichthyosis! too much heat for her, can cause a STROKE! so, yes, products like this are needed. thank you.

  • First of all I guess I have to bring to light that this article was obviously written by a man- need I say more? Also HE obviously is pretty ignorant on this subject and maybe should have done his homework. I have Limo tint on my van and dual a/c's and when its 120 its 120 no matter how u slice it. its like sticking ur head in the exhaust of an inferno when u open up the van in the summer. these things work Great!!! I can not believe he would have the audacity to criticize moms for wanting to keep their children cool and unburned. r u kidding me? those buckles are like branding irons...next time "Mr. Mom"( or lack of) writes another article re: children - Plz be sure and do a little research!

  • This is a wonderful idea! It's 105 degrees in El Paso TX today and I swore I'd find an A/C for my son's car seat. Unfortunately this will only be useful in a few months...right now I'm looking for something to keep him cool while he's in his seat (he's only 6 weeks old)....I'm sure someone smart will come up with something :-)

  • Wow, that guy really is ignorant of how it is in a hot climate. The heat goes right through a towel or blanket, and even if the buckles did not get hot, being in a carseat until the car cools off is very uncomfortable. My son comes out of his seat with his hair damp form sweat. We are in Phoenix, and I was about to invent something like this if it was not already out there, or throw a bunch of cold packs from the sporting goods department on my son's seat. This is definitely what we need.

  • In phoenix here too. i think the guy is a moron. and i pray he DOESNT have any children that he would be willing to subject a burn like that to his children. or, he lives in a colder state, in which case, he has no right to even COMMENT on things like this lol.

  • hahaha. Phoenix here too. Even after swimming today my son got in his hot car seat and came out sweaty! I put him in dry cloths too! I don't need to rip on this guy any more than everyone else did. They are quite expensive though, but ingenious!

  • Great! Elite Car Seats are best for my baby!!

  • Yes, it is very important to aviod nasty burns that hot buckles can cause our kids. I am in Phoenix too, and I completely understand how many million degress our cars get. However, the price of this car seat cooler is ridiculous...take my advice...ice packs work perfectly fine and totally inexpensive! Don't waste your money when you do not have to!!!

  • I live in Oregon and even "up" here the black interior in my car makes it feel like a furnace in the summer months. We are currently in our hottest part of summer weeks of 95+ degree weather. After reading all these comments I will definitely be buying this product without any buyer's remorse.

  • Thank you to all you folks from Phoenix. You have verified for me the reason I never moved there. Nice desert.
