Coke Relaunches Tab as Energy Drink

by Steve
Monday, September 26, 2005

Tab EnergyCoke announced that they will be relaunching Tab as an energy drink.

Tab had once achieved status as the most popular soda in the America during the 1970s, but has since slid down into obscurity with the onslaught of diet soft drinks in the 1980s.

Coke has slimmed down the can into something reminiscent of the 1960s, and poured in some extra caffeine, to market it towards young women. Tab Energy does not taste like regular Tab, which had already undergone recipe changes numerous times since the height of Tab stardom.

A small but loyal following of Tab afficionados kept the spirit going however, and created an online cult following, which has since elevated it back into popularity again.

  • ...well, I guess in the light of all the movies being made from 70's television series, this was inevitable.

  • Tab really never went away in the area I live in (then again I live in Atlanta) 'Tab Energy' just reminds me of dnL - it'll be around for a bit and eventually fade away.

  • I can't believe the stupidity of coke. As a child of the 70's that loved Tab and still drinks Tab, I can't believe they are choosing to ignore the following Tab has. NC stopped distributing Tab and loyal fans, like myself, drove 100's of miles to purchase it elsewhere. Tab Energy sounds like a bad idea!

  • I can't believe that anyone would think that Tab tastes anything like Diet Coke. I live on TAB and I totally buy out the shelves of the stuff at stores in fear that it may be the last batch ever made.

  • I grew up loving the pre-saccharine TaB in the late 70's, and recently ordered a case of the current saccharine+aspartame formula... it's just not the same. The modern TaB tastes more like a modern diet drink whereas my childhood memories are of a very different flavor. I like TaB energy but cripes it is expensive. I suppose most of these energy drinks are high-profit items anyway, but it just seems wrong to pay $2 for a thin can of anything.

  • I just purchased Tab Energy from the gym. I am a Diet Coke fanatic but I have to say I really enjoyed this drink! I also like that it actually has vitamins!

  • I found Tab Energy at my local 99 Cents store. 2 cans for 99 cents, so I tried it. It's pretty good, didn't make me feel jittery. I'll definitely buy it again if I can get it cheap.

  • I am addicted to this stuff! I hate the taste ofmost energy drinks but this one is so awesome when it's chilled. As for an "energy drink" - it perks you up.. doesn't do any more than that..

  • I tried the TAB energy drink several months ago and I am totally hooked. It is the only energy drink that doesn't taste like recycled prune juice and it give you energy without giving you angina. But I am having a problem locating it. Does anyone know where I can get it in the Houston/Sugar Land Texas area. The walmart stopped carrying it and that kind of scares me.
