by Steve
Tuesday, September 06, 2005

Hitachi - Hard drive is new blingHitachi says, "Hard Drive is the New Bling". That's why they're giving away 25 diamond-studded mini-hard drive platters to add techno-bling to your style.

Each of these accessories is valued at $500.00, and you can get one for free by participating in Hitachi's online survey between now and October 7.

Check out the funny Flash animation that goes with it.

  • I won one of these. What do I do with it now? I wish it was a hard drive or something useful. Maybe I can melt it down and make it into some jewelery I would actually wear.

  • Same here. Funny you posted very recently - I got my charm thing about 1/2 to a year ago (don't have the envelope in front of me). A friend took it to a jeweler just recently - it is supposedly a real diamond, about .25 carat, rough *estimated* worth 300-400. Though they did not unmount it, so he couldn't tell the actual quality (clarity, etc...).

I'd like to know what sort of metal - silver most likely - the charm part is made out of.

All-in-all, I was pretty shocked when it arrived, but then disappointed as there was a scratch on the face of it when it arrived - they shipped it all by itself in the envelope without any packing material.

You know, we should try to find out all who got one of these things. I mean, there were only 25 people, right? It'd be kinda interesting to see where they all ended up. Maybe start a Flickr pool? it would be a very elite club :D
