Gillette's New "Fusion" Razor

Gillette FusionIs this what we waited for? Is this all there is?

After Gillette had kept us anxiously awaiting what they described as their "latest innovation", I figured that one of their whiskerologists had a beautiful epiphany.

But a fifth blade? Is that all it was?

Apparently so. Yup, they're up to five blades on one head.

And what's with having "fusion" in the name? What other technology did they fuse this with? Is it because it has a single-bladed "trimmer" on the back of the cartridge? That's not new. I remember my dad's old razor was "double headed", and could do the same thing.

I dunno. I'll stick with my trusty ol' Remington.

One of these companies just needs to release a razor with 101 blades and be done with this stupid "arms race" of shaving implements.

Someone seriously needs to invent some better way of shaving. I've tried all kinds of tools, from single razors to four bladed, rotary and linear electrics. Nothing gets me a smooth shave without seriously irritating my skin. The only thing I can think of I have not tried is something like Nair, which essentially uses a hydroxide solution, or similarly effective chemical, to dissolve your hair. The problem with that is, your skin is held together most strongly by the same protein disulfide bonds as your hair. I would not really want to go dissolving my face just to get the hair off.

Once I tried the Mach3: it was bulky, clumsy and ineffective.
My regular 2 bladed Gillette Sensor works fine. Guess there's people that just NEEDS to have more of everything.

That sixth blade on the top - in a very unexpected area - can be dangerous, too, because you're not expecting it to be there.

yeah, stupid competiton between companies..1st there was the classic 1-blade, then, wow, twin blade, then Mach3 and Wilkinson Quattro? Now 5 blades...razors are becoming to look like huge panels with plenty of blades..the same with electrical razors..single head, dual head, triple head, linear, rotary, thousands of rpm for panasonic electrical razors. and so on...fusion? sounds like another crap. like wilkinsons' quattro , first the standard version, then call it midnight and insert a different color rubber in the handle..oh god! stupid marketing

Sixth blade very dangerous!!!
I was shaving in an upward motion from my adams apple towards my chin, and while bringing the razor down for the next upward stroke, the sixth blade caught my chin, very badly gashing it open. Nearly needing stitches, and permanently scarring my chin. VERY DANGEROUS!!!!

At places like shavemyface.com, badgerandblade.com, and theshaveden.com, we're going backwards to single-blade razors - double edge, injector, single edge - and even straight razors.

I agree with one of the comments that says

"Guess there's people that just NEEDS to have more of everything."

It's true... people are just greedy and like to have more then others even if a product is not good. If it has more of something, is more expensive, then people will buy it to make themselves seem better then other people and more well off then others around them, or...even to just fit in with others.

My brother in law is like that, he likes big things and brand names and more of things. He thinks others will think he is rich and admire him and look up to him. However I just see him as stupid. His brain thinks ..duuhh if it bigger, it better! duhhhh it brand name it better? If I have more it best?
