Santa's Little Spy

Elf on the ShelfIf your kids keep asking you how Santa knows who's been naughty or nice, tell them he has an elf spying on them.

The "Elf on the Shelf" is the creation of Carol Aebersold, who decided to take her family's Christmas tradition global. When her kids were little, they asked her the same question. She found a stuffed elf doll amongst her Christmas decorations and explained that the elf watches them and reports back to the big elf himself.

For $24.95 you can purchase your own elf spy. It comes with a story book and a keepsake box. You place the elf where is can watch over the family, then read the story to your kids. When they go to bed, you move it to where it can watch them.

Once your family gives the elf a name, you can register it on the Elf on the Shelf website.

  • I plan to order this for my grandchildren. I can't wait. It is a special interest to have for them when they visit grandmother's house. Helps them use thier imagination, instead of relying on video games all the time.

  • This is a lovely gift and a wonderful story. My grandchildren absolutely love it and come in the door looking for the elf. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to start a great tradition or who wants to give someone a superb present.

  • I know the woman that really made up this "tradition" she was a neighbor of carols in georgia. her kids babysat for carols twins. she told carol her "tradition that she made up when her kids were little back in the 60s I think this is very sad! I'd like someone to question her about this as the woman can't until legal things are settled. Would you and post on your site?

  • This is totally CREEPY! If you buy this for a child, make sure you save your money to buy them sessions with a therapist after you traumatize them! I can't IMAGINE waking up in the morning or coming into a room and finding that the elf had moved. Go ahead and buy it if you want to scare the crap out of them. I'm glad the adults in my life actually LOVED me.

  • Does anyone out there know the name of the lady Carol supposedly stole the elf idea from? This is interesting and I think it warrants further investigation.

  • I was born in 1957 and still have the elf that my Mom used. It is wearing a green suit, white collar with a candy striped hat. It came with a little poem about "the elf on the shelf"....Interesting it turned into a book and an elf wearing a red suit, which back when I was a kid, only Santa wore the red suit!!!!

  • Love the idea but why is the elf so ugly?

  • My girls LOVE this little elf. My oldest child reads the book several times a day and thinks it's the best thing. We all have fun with it.
