The Mother of All Gun Safety Locks

by Steve

The Piece KeeperThe Piece Keeper is a wall-mounted gun lock lets you display your "piece" while "keeping" it safe from kids and would-be thieves.

But it's designed to released in an instant, using a key.

It was created by Mark Ketterer, a gun enthusiast who decided he had enough of kids getting themselves killed after playing with their dad's gun.

The gun lock is molded out of a strong polycarbonate material that doesn't crack, and holds up to hammer blows. It can't even be pryed open, or pryed off the wall, thanks to a stainless steel backer plate, and six 3 1/2 inch long screws.

Plus, they make beautiful home decorating pieces! I think I'll put one in the bedroom, one in the family room, and one by the front door, and...

  • What if you live in a trailer with thin walls? You could totally rip it off the wall!

How many children do you think get killed per year playing with dad's gun?

  • Just to let you guys know....I mounted it, last night. I was honestly a little skeptical at first, not knowing how much faith I had in it. Then I put my Beretta 9mm into my new Piece Keeper. It is awesome, it took me 10 minutes to get out the template, pre drill the holes in my stud, and then 30 seconds to adjust the Piece Keeper to my gun. I locked the gun, threw the spare key into my safe, and put the main key on my keyring. Very easy...would recomend this product to ANYONE!

  • Bob, you are EXACTLY RIGHT! I picked mine up from Peter's Gun Range in Roseville, Michigan last night...and it works great. I had no problem installing my 357 Smith on my wall. I bought the camo version...I put it in my office under my big 8 point I shot with my handgun last year!!

  • I picked one up at the Silverdome show Saturday and had it installed in about a half hour. I had been looking for a solution for the safe gun/accessable gun issue for some time, and this is it!

  • According to National Vital Statistics Report, Vol. 50, No. 15, September 16, 2002, 287 childeren between the ages of 1-24 died from the accidental discharge of firearms. (Keep in mind this is for the entire country) 12983 kids of the same age group died in motor vehichle accidents. 1514 kids of the same age group died of accidental drowning. 748 died of fire related injuries. Your money would probably be better spent for a fence around the pool, a 9v battery for the fire detector, or making sure your kid is wearing their seat belt. Similarly, 7011 NONACCIDENTAL firearms related deaths of kids between 1-24 were reported for 2002. Firearms can be safely secured with a little common sense. A lock just might cost you the 5 extra seconds that could save your life or the life of a child.

The stats can be googled, but here is the page I used. http://www.the-eggman.com/writings/death_stats.html

  • Erm....since when was a 24 year old a child? YOu are an adult at 18, surely?

  • Well, I've just checked on the CDC website, which is the *only* authoratative source of the figures.

    http://webapp.cdc.gov/sasweb/ncipc/mortrate10_sy.html

Unintentional gun deaths of those aged 0 to 18 (children) in 2003 ammounted to 77.

  • Ok to comment on the 24 year old child thing, yes your not legally adultified until you turn 25. I am not sure why because I havn't looked into it. But your considered to have certain adult rights at 18 but not an adult. 21 you gain more rights as one being the right to drink. 25 your an adult and should be dependant of your self unless disabled and dependant on another other then goverment funding.

About the saftey lock system, why not just get gun safety classes and teach the child safe gun handling. Also, lock the gun up somewhere in a closet or cabinet.

What are the statistics of adults being killed by accidental misfire? How about friendly fire statistics?
