Walk-O-Long Baby Hoist

Walk-O-LongThe Walk-O-Long is marketed as a safety device for toddlers learning how to walk. As your little boy or girl is taking its first steps, the Walk-O-Long allows you to hoist it up back on to its feet, protecting it from hurting its little head.

The interesting part is that the company claims the Walk-O-Long can be used for kids up to 10 years of age.

This is because it's also good for keeping kids from running off while at the shopping mall, or training kids how to balance on roller skates.

I'd sure hate to have been the unfortunate 10 year old having to be collared by one of these things in the middle of a shopping mall. What would the other kids think!

  • Glad you're lovin' it! Too bad you weren't the Daddy entrepreneur who created it. He's laughing all the way to the bank while getting kudos from Moms nationwide! OK, we admit, a 10 year old strapped into a Walk O Long in the mall might be a little tough on a kids' rep, but it is possible that kid has a motor skills disability and the last thing on his mind is what his friends think. Good thing you were born perfect. Whew!

  • So I guess you're his wife, alygurl?

Seriously, it's great this thing is around for teaching babies to walk, because god knows parents have not been able to do that successfully till this fine invention.

And it's vitally important that a child does not learn to occasionally take a fall, and knows that someone will always be there to hoist him up from the brink of the rug, just in time! Hoorah!

  • I saw this at the babystore and thought it looked cumbersome and stupid. I've never had a problem holding my daughters hands while they learned to walk. I also don't like it as a "leash" because it's too bulky and draws too much attention to itself. Give me a wrist-to-wrist leash if I want to keep my kids in line at the mall.

  • My son started walking at 8 1/2 months old and has always been VERY independent. He is 10 months now & walks pretty good, and has his occasional spills & falls and pretty much always has a bump or bruise on his head. This is fine for when he is walking in the house or another safe place. But what am I supposed to do when we go for walks outside & he wants to walk himself? I love that he is very independent & encourage that he does things on his own..but I can't in good conscience let an unsteady walker outside on sidewalk where there are cracks, etc. walk on his one. I don't want him to crack his head open...and holding his hand is nice, but hoisting him up over cracks & bumps with his little arms scares me...I'm afraid I might rip his arms out of their sockets!!!
This is a great invention for this exact purpose. My husband loves it because he has a bad back and can't bend or slump over to grab our son's hand right now...our son is just too short & little.
Obviously as he gets older we will not use things like this, as he will eventually master walking. But, for now, its a great helper tool. Of course I could help him walk without it, its not totally necessary..but its definitely helpful for walks outside and at the park.
As for his friends, hes 10 months old. As long as he gets to walk, he dosent care.

  • Maybe some people might not like this for their babies, but it worked wonders for my son. He was born premature, and as a result had some balance issues early on. His PT said he was VERY close to walking, and had all of the other developmental steps to do so. However, because he had some sensory issues, he was too scared to walk alone. I got the Walk-O-Long, and he gradually developed more confidence. It also was a back saver for me, as bending over to hold his hands got to be kind of uncomfortable. With some practice, my little guy was walking within a little over a week. And for those questioning why you would use this with kids as old as 10, open your eyes! Not every kid walks by the age of 1. Some of us need the extra help.
