Fairy Tooth Castle
by Steve
Friday, July 29, 2005

The
Fairy Tooth Castle is a sand sculpture delivered to your child by the "Tooth Fairy". When your child places a tooth under his or her pillow, you carefully pick it up at night, and then place an order with Fairy Tooth Castle.
In a few days, your child receives the sand castle along with a letter from the Tooth Fairy, explaining that the teeth are what makes the castles glitter and sparkle.
The
Fairy Tooth Castle is the idea of Sarah Whitmer, who had made a practice of doing this for her grandchildren. She got so much joy listening to her grandkids describe the sandcastles and letters they got from the Tooth Fairy, that she decided to go global.

Close Call™ Drinkable Mouthwash
by Steve
Friday, July 29, 2005
Close Call™ is being billed as the world's first drinkable mouthwash. The new product from Tasker Products is said to have a specific advantage over traditional breath fresheners because it can be swallowed where it continues to fight odors in the throat and upper-respiratory tract.
Close Call™ doesn't contain any alcohol unlike other gargled concoctions.
Jim Burns, the Executive Vice President and COO at Tasker Products, claims that while mints only disguise bad breath and mouthwashes reduce, but don't eliminate, mouth bacteria, Close Call's breakthrough formula eliminates the most pungent of odors because it attacks bacteria in the throat as well as the mouth. "A drinkable product is the only way to reach bacteria everywhere," said Burns.
And drinking is exactly how Close Call™ will be put to the test at the 27th annual Gilroy Garlic Festival in Gilroy, CA this weekend. More than 125,000 visitors to the event will be chugging down bottles of Close Call™ after spending the day consuming various varieties of garlic.
Close Call™ began shipping last March into a few states. Only recently has it started shipping to the rest of the USA.

Vytex™ is the new Latex
by Steve
Friday, July 29, 2005

Don't you just hate it when you've spent several hours shimmying your way into that Latex body suit, only to find out that you were allergic to Latex?
Well relax, because
Vytex™ is here!
Vytex™ is being billed as "the new Latex". It's basically a non-allergenic form of Latex. According to Vystar Corporation, the maker of Vytex™, natural rubber Latex, which comes from the Hevea brasiliensis tree, contains a number of proteins that cause minor to serious allergic reactions. Estimates run as high as 17% of healthcare workers, who use latex gloves, find themselves with latex allergies due to these proteins.
Vystar Corporation claims to have developed a novel, patented method for the deactivation of the antigenic proteins in liquid natural rubber latex that involves the quasi-sequestration of these proteins. Vystar believes that this method "denatures" the proteins by altering the stereochemistry of their structures thus reducing the ability to generate an immune response.
Well, I suppose any time you can work in the word "quasi-sequestration" you've got to give it some credit.
Note that Vytex™ is not the same as Vytex. There's actually Vytex™, the rubber latex alternative mentioned here, and then there's Vytex the brand of
windows and doors. The two are apparently unrelated.

HondaJet
by Steve
Friday, July 29, 2005

When we think about private jets, we usually think of brands like "Lear", "Cessna", "Raytheon", and "Gulfstream". Well, soon we'll be thinking of "Honda".
The famous maker of cars and motorcycles is looking to invade our airspace with their experimental "
HondaJet". The HondaJet has been logging flight hours over the past couple years, but it wasn't until yesterday that it made its public world debut.
Honda boasts a number of innovations including a patented over-the-wing engine-mount configuration, a natural-laminar flow (NLF) wing and fuselage nose, and an advanced all-composite fuselage structure. The company claims that the still experimental HondaJet is an advanced, lightweight, compact business jet that features far better fuel efficiency, more available space in the fuselage, and higher cruise speed than conventional aircraft in its class. The HondaJet is powered by two Honda HF-118 engines, each rated at 1,670-pound thrust at takeoff power.
The HondaJet seats six people (2 crew + 4 passengers, or 1 + 5). It has a maximum take-off thrust of 757 kgf (1,670 lbf) x 2, has a maximum speed of 778 km/hr (420 knots), an operational ceiling of 12,497 m (41,000 ft), and a range of 2,037 km (1,100 nm).
Perhaps someday we'll be hearing about the "ToyotaJet" or the "HummerJet", or God forbid, the "YugoJet".

CradleVue laptop car seat harness
by Steve
Friday, July 29, 2005

"Are we there yet?"
That's what the folks at
VueGear have to say about their new product. And judging from the looks of it, well, you could argue that, "yes, they've arrived."
The
CradleVue is a harness designed to hold a laptop between two car seats such that someone sitting in the backseat can use it. While the company doesn't come right out and say it, they're basically positioning this as a low-budget solution for a DVD player in your car.
Though, I suppose it's actually better than a car DVD player. Most laptops have bigger screens than car DVD players. But then again, you're going to have to get a power inverter for your car so that you can plug the AC into the DC. Otherwise that laptop battery ain't gonna last that long.

RoboRaptor™
by Steve
Thursday, July 28, 2005

The RoboRaptor™ is being billed as "A Fusion of Technology and Personality".
It's basically a remote-controlled raptor. The manufacturer says that it has "advanced artificial intelligence", which is exactly what we want in a flesh-eating robo-dinosaur!
It also has "realistic biomorphic motions" and "autonomous (free-roam) modes", and has three different "mood behaviors": aggressive/hunting mood; nervous/cautious mood; friendly/playful mood.
Ok, basically this is a toy dinosaur with advanced artificial intelligence, is able to cop an attitude, and can roam around freely on its own? Imagine what this could do to a chihuahua with confidence problems!
The RoboRaptor™ has been available in other countries, but is just hitting markets this week in the United States.
Sharper Image has them online.

Napoleon Dynamite Doll
by Steve
Wednesday, July 27, 2005

Need something really cool on your desk that no one else in the office has? Then get the new
Napoleon Dynamite Doll.
The new talking doll speaks 18 different lines from the movie, "Napoleon Dynamite". In fact, the maker of the doll claims that it talks more than most dolls on the market. Press a button on its sound platform and he says stuff like, "Tina, you fat lard, come get some dinner!" or "You guys are retarded!", or the classic, "I caught you a delicious bass".
Wearing faded blue jeans, a "Vote For Pedro" tee-shirt, and some classic but cool moon boots, the Napoleon Dynamite doll is ready to strut some sweet dance moves in office cubicles across the country.
The doll is the creation of Jay Kamhi, who got the idea after he took his two daughters to see the movie. They begged him to create a talking doll of the film's quirky main character.
"I had emailed Jared Hess, the film's director, and asked him if he would mind if I created a talking doll," says Kamhi. "The next day I received a reply from him saying he thought it was a great idea."
Kamhi enlisted the help of former NASA engineer Steve Chen to produce quality sound, and noted sculptor Paul Brooke to capture the essence of the Napoleon Dynamite character.

Teen Driver Tracking System
by Steve
Wednesday, July 27, 2005
Discrete Wireless, Inc., which makes GPS-based tracking systems for car dealers, announced today of its new GPS-based tracking system for teen-drivers.
Now, parents can track where their teenagers are driving to.
The system works by hiding a GPS-device inside a vehicle. Parents can then log into a secure website to see where that vehicle is travelling to, along with how fast the car is travelling, and what times. Thus, they can tell if junior skipped school during the middle of the day, or if he drove well over the speed limit, or drove to someplace he wasn't supposed to.
The system will also send alerts by text messages or e-mail.
The company said that one teenager actually felt it was a good thing:
"At first I didn't like it, but I soon realized that it gives me a way out of doing things that I really don't want to do. It eliminates peer pressure. I tell my friends that my parents can see everything we do, and everywhere we go in my car, and my friends don't ask anymore."
If you'd like to get the Teen Tracking System, the company has a list of dealers on its
press release.

ZAP Smart Car
by Steve
Tuesday, July 26, 2005

A company called ZAP (Zero Air Pollution), has produced a version of its ZAP Car for the United States, called the "
Smart Car".
The ZAP Cars have been selling well in Europe for some time, which caused the company to develop a version that meets American standards. Just last week the European-made cars entered the United States on their way to dealers throughout the nation.
The Smart Car is still a gas-powered vehicle, however. It has a rear-mounted 3-cylinder turbo engine producing 60 horse power. It has a six-speed automatic transmission, and an 8.7 gallon fuel capacity.
I couldn't find any specifics on the company website as to specifically what kind of gas-mileage one would expect from a Smart Car. But I'm sure it's probably pretty good.

Baby Talk DVD
by Steve
Tuesday, July 26, 2005

Now you can buy a DVD to teach your 3-month old baby to speak in multiple languages!
Well, not quite.
Baby Talk DVD is supposed to prepare your baby's brain so that when it starts to learn how to speak, it will have an easier time learning other languages.
How does it work?
The creator of the new DVD, Dr. Bryan C. Weatherspoon, also known as "Dr. Spoon", says...
"In the first two years of life, the brain is still forming new connections, or synapses, and those synapses can be influenced by what a child is exposed to," explained Dr. Weatherspoon. "So when a child hears the sounds of two different languages on a regular basis, his or her brain will accept languages more easily later on."
Basically you just slap the DVD into the player, pull the baby up to the television, and let it run. Then later on down the road, your boy or girl will find it much easier to learn all the foreign language cuss words!
Baby Talk DVD is available for both English/Spanish and English/French.

Chili Pepper Face Wash
by Steve
Monday, July 25, 2005

A new product called "
Capisderm", made from chili peppers, is said to help eliminate acne. The product, made by SiCap Industries, LLC, a manufacturer of herbal supplements, claims to wipe out acne in a matter of days, without any of the burning sensation people come to expect from chili peppers.
The key ingredient is Capsaicin, naturally found in chili peppers, and known to be a promising acne fighter. According to Capisderm's press release...
Researchers believe it works on two fronts - First the thermal heat action of Capsaicin helps to open pores and increase blood flow to the surface of the skin. Secondly, Capsaicin has powerful antimicrobial properties that help distinguish harmful bacteria that's hiding within the layers of skin. Capsaicin also helps to desensitize sensitive skin by affecting a series of tiny nerves, and in this way it may also be beneficial for relieving chronic topical pain associated with certain circulatory conditions.
The company claims that there are immediate results within the first day or two of use. Most acne conditions will disappear completely within the first week, even with severe cases, and also prevents future outbreaks. The company claims that it will reduce wrinkles.

Hallitubes - Like Taking a Rollercoaster to Work
by Steve
Friday, July 22, 2005
Hallitubes are the concept of a San Diego-based attorney named Greg Maizlish, designed to alleviate traffic on congested roadways. It's basically a network of elevated tubes that would parallel existing roadways, and even branch off into their own areas.
The tubes are very small, just big enough to carry a car holding one, maybe two people, and a track. Riders lie down in the car, with the head and neck elevated. The cars are powered by electricity, which they get from the track, and can reach speeds up to 120mph.
One of the barriers to making Hallitubes work, is that each rider must pass a training course to know how to switch themselves on to other tracks, operate the cars, and how to take emergency actions.
Maizlish is currently trying to get a voter initiative going in California to implement the Hallitubes.

Choco-Logo, a company that produces chocolates with carvings on them, claims to have designed a revolutionary new process to produce carvings with intricate details.
The company claims that the traditional process involved pouring melted chocolate into molds, and that this process could not produce fine details because the thickness of the chocolate would not reach into the tiniest spaces. But their new process, allows for the creation of the most finest details.
Of course, the company won't describe how this process works.
But, you can pretty much get them to put whatever you want on a piece of chocolate. They can also put full color photography on chocolates.

Dog Nose Art
by Steve
Thursday, July 21, 2005

We've all heard about elephants painting on canvas, and monkeys painting stuff too. Well, now you can buy "art" created from a dog's nose.
Oscar, a Schnauzer, loves to use his nose to smudge and smear up car windows. Actually, my beagle does this a lot! Well, Oscar's owner, Sondra Raines decided to capture some of his artistic expressions on print, and sell them as note cards.
The idea came to Raines two years ago. Oscar, then 11 years old, was afflicted with valley fever and almost died. He underwent two years of treatment before he was fully well again. Realizing that Oscar did not have much time left, Raines decided to color-enhance and market Oscar's drawings as note cards so as to preserve Oscar's legacy, and use part of the proceeds to benefit the Arizona Humane Society.
According to Raines, Oscar finds inspiration is great many ways. "Oscar's artistic renderings reflect his emotions at the time. "Fire Hydrant Fusion" was drawn during a trip to the vet, while "Dog Dreams" was created during a drive through Old Town Scottsdale with the convertible top down."
Visit "
That Dog Nose Art" to see all the cards, and order yourself a collection.

Self-Lifting Toilet Seat
by Steve
Thursday, July 21, 2005

Don't you just hate guys who choose to pee in the toilet with the toilet seat down? Then you have wipe off the seat and risk getting some of his pee-pee on you?
Well, a company has now made a self-lifting toilet seat. The "
ASC Elite Seat" is designed with a certain "balance" such that when the seat is put down, it will eventually lift itself back up in about 45 seconds. Inside the seat's hinge, are liquid-filled chambers that causes the seat to lift back up after its put down. Hence, the seat is always in an upright position (Yea for us guys!!)
(Hey, this is precisely the reason why toilet seats should be left up. You don't want your hubby or boyfriend getting up in the middle of the night, half-asleep, forgetting to lift the seat, and peeing all over it do you? Well ok!)
The ASC Elite Seat is actually the more affordable consumer-version of the CWS Cleanseat, a self-cleaning toilet seat marketed towards businesses.

SlikaStik - Edible Drinking Straw

Thursday, July 21, 2005

When you've finished slurpin' down a cold glass of rootbeer, don't stop there, eat the straw too!
SlikaStiks are drinking straws that look like any other drinking straw, except it's made out of candy. They come in a variety of flavors: Blueberry, Chocolate Mint, Cotton Candy, Strawberry and Vanilla.
Apparently, they've been in Great Britain for some time now, and proven to be successful. Now, they're being offered in the United States.
A SlikaStik has no holes at first. But as one uses the straw, it starts to become hollow and the more it is used the larger the hollow portion, or hole, becomes. The manufacturer says they don't work very well with hot drinks. They also have a version, made with Isomalt, for folks who can't eat sugar.

Jenny Jet Adventure hits Cell Phones this Fall
by Steve
Wednesday, July 20, 2005

Cell phones are being invaded by a new sci-fi adventure called
Jenny Jet that combines text messages, blogs, animation, and a cutting-edge story.
Jenny Jet works for the C.M.I.A. (Central Mobile Intelligence Agency); and sends daily text messages to subscribers as she investigates the alien/government conspiracy. The story includes Alien Greys, Reptoids, the Feds, and other unsavory characters. People can blog to contribute to the story by offering theories, sharing information, and recounting UFO sightings.
"It is an interactive, sci-fi adventure to get caught up in," says Gary Brooks, creator of Jenny Jet. Subscribers are able to interact by texting JENNY (53669) from their cell phone and by blogging on the web site.
Subscribers to the service might get anywhere from 1 to 3 texts a day from Jenny Jet such as, "The gov don't want you to know 1000's of aliens are already here; blog at jennyjet.com." The story is based on actual documents, interviews, and research; but is presented to subscribers through a cast of animated characters.
Jenny Jet is free (except for standard SMS messaging rates that wireless carriers charge), and is ad-supported. Cell phone users can sign up to the service at
http://jennyjet.com.

About Strange New Products
by Steve
Wednesday, July 20, 2005
Strange New Products blogs about the weirdest, funniest, inane, and ingenious new products hitting the market. We look for stuff that's either really crass, really funny, really dumb, or really clever.
It could be electronics, could be food, could be software, could be heavy machinery, just about anything.
Where do I find this stuff?I monitor press releases, watch several e-commerce and manufacturer sites, subscribe to product launch reports, subscribe to lots of catalogs, and I even find stuff just surfing aimlessly around the Internet.
Some stuff is sent to me from manufacturers.
If you're marketing a new product, and think it fits the bill for this blog,
send me the details.
About Steve
I'm a Southern California native. Actually, I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, but lived here in SoCal for 95% of my life.
I did my growing up in San Diego, Orange County, and some in the San Francisco Bay area. I attended Santa Ana College, majoring in music.
In 2003 I quit working for the man, and pursued a career blogging. I started a bunch of blogs and did pretty good. In 2005 I incorporated my business into Clear Digital Media, Inc. I just sit here at home, work for myself, blog all day, and make money at it.
When I'm not on the computer, I'm riding my motorcycle. I own a 2004 Yamaha Road Star, and a 2005 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic. I ride with a club, and if you like to ride the highways of SoCal, and have a beer at a local hangout, you might see me. Read my
biker news blog.
Friends will tell you that I have a warped sense of humor. I'm actually a quiet guy, who spends more time listening than talking. But they'll also tell you that when I say something, it's either really funny, really serious, or really stupid. Never normal.
My skill lies in business analysis. From 1991 to 2003 I worked for various software companies that specialized in healthcare claims processing. I managed their research & development departments, I studied state and federal laws, regulations, and industry practices, relating to claims processing. Then I wrote up software specifications on how healthcare claims should be adjudicated.
I head up a small social networking group, "
Menifee Internet Professionals", comprising of business owners who make a living from the Internet. We get together at someone's house, hang out, eat, drink, and talk about the 'net.
