Beer Can with Lip Wrapper

beer can wrappersGrupo Cerveza Alhambra is advertising its new beer can design featuring this "lip wrapper" made of tin.

I've never seen one of these things, though I suppose they may have been around in Spain where Alhambra is brewed. The brewer says this is supposed to keep the lip clean, so that you can enjoy both alcohol and good health.

So what is this thing supposed to be called? Lip Wrapper? Can Cover?

Anything that gives a degree of seperation between me, my food, and all the sniffling sneezing touching people out there is a good thing. Bring on the coverings!!

It isnt such a silly thing. All of southern Europe and my country (Malta) are used to it. Just thin of the journey the can makes from production to the shelf... all the stores, transport etc and you'll appreciate this ingenous effort to keep a good level of hygene.

There was an urban legend circulating on the dire effect of dried rat excrement which can be easily find its way on top of your favorite cerveza..!

Brilliant! Can we have those in the UK too, please? I hate drinking from tha can in case a rat has wee'd on it in the warehouse. Which is probably what happens in every country, but some countries don't like to acknowledge it.

In Brazil, the Crystal Beer was the first one

Some say that it started as a response from a rat disease (leptospirosis)... nothing confirmed

Great. Just what the environment needs. Even more packaging.

most beers that come in cans actually taste like the rat droppings got into the fermenter!
