Rainbox Makes Water Out of Air

by Steve
Tuesday, February 28, 2006

Global RainboxA company called Global Water Ltd. make a series of products under brand name "Rainbox", which makes water seemingly out of thin air.

They're actually water condensers, producing water similarly to how water condenses and beads on a glass of ice water. In addition this model pictured here, which makes anywhere from 5 to 25 gallons a day, they make larger units that double as air conditioners, and air purifiers, and produce up to 1,500 gallons per day.

The amount of water produced depends on air humidity. They also have to be plugged into the wall, running on electricity.

At least with this, there's no more worrying about the water delivery guy hitting up on your wife at home.

  • Now all you need is a droid that understands the binary language of independently programmable moisture vaporators.

  • These machines are commonly used in 3rd world countries. After the Tsunamy in Asia many units were sent to give people water. So as stupid as they may seen in our modern world, this is an important technology for many people.

  • It makes perfect sense if you already use a dehumidifier. The waste product is water, but this new product merely cleans it for human consumption.

But if it's like a dehumidifier, it makes considerable noise. You can't just tuck it into a small out-of-the-way room because it only draws water from the air in the immediate area.

  • Not a real comment, but "Now all you need is a droid that understands the binary language of independently programmable moisture vaporators" totally cracked me up!! LOL!

  • I think it's a good idea, but if makes too much noise then I don't see how they will sell too many. Unless they made it portable, that would be cool!

Our company have been working on rainbox type of machine for past 3
years or so and drinking the water
    daily.
The machine is ultra silent in
operation and the water of excellent taste. It surpasses Health Dept Standards for drinking water.
The amount of water produced is reliant upon prevailing temp & humidity. The higher the T & H, the more water is produced at cheaper cost.
The cost of electricity used =
    the cost of water produced.
When producing water the machine consumes 0.620Kw per hr.
Thus cost per Ltr may be around $0.4cents or so.
On average this particular model may produce upto 30 or so Ltr per 24hrs.
    Others may produce 120 - 220Ltrs
24hrs and larger still may produce
    1000s / Ltrs.

    Machine life may be 5 - 15years
    Priced around Aud $1600

    Compared with cost of bottled
water from the local store or
bulk 15Ltr bottles its ultra cheap
    and ultra Enviro friendly.

Hidden cost - bottled water. Cost of daily disposal of billions of plastic containers and the worldwide air pollution created by the millions of trucks distributing bottle water, impose a stupendous burden upon the community and our environment.

    If not happy with'mains' water,
then this type of machine is a wise
    choice..
If you are in Australia our web pages will be available shortly so check out www.airstream-water.com
    soon

  • Just a bit more from Skippy
The machine is a 3 in 1 and acts as:-

    A dehumidifier
    An Air purifier
    And an excellent water maker

Its portable within the home or office, just plugs into standard power supply and away it goes.

Larger ones are split system for
    in or out-door location

Many parts of Australia are suffering worst drought
conditions for years and our water position is very serious.

No Sweat - Singapore imports water from Malaysia but its not enough, thus years back they began
recycling their own waste water, including sewage.
News is - many countries are considering doing likewise.

Am I glad I have my machine !!

No scotch and waste for me

    Happy drinking
    Skippy

  • Can it be powered by photovoltaics? If so what is the lowest wattage?
