Heating Device Prevents Cold Sores

by Steve
Monday, March 27, 2006

InterceptCSCanadian-based Jenex Corporation is now selling a device called "InterceptCS" that claims to prevent cold sores by applying heat.

The company says that when you feel cold sore coming on (as evidenced by itching, burning or tingling sensations on the lip), you apply three 30 second treatments by touching the heated tip to the affected area.

The science behind this concept is that heat stimulates a cell's immune response to viral attack (herpes simplex virus). Targeted heat therapy results in a "heat shock" response within the skin cells to produce heat shock proteins. Heat shock proteins react with the immune system to help recognize and kill the virally-infected cells that cause cold sores.

  • This thing probably works. For several years now, I have been heating (as hot as I can stand without burning) the back of a tablespoon on top of the kitchen range, and then applying the spoon to an emerging coldsore. Do this several times. It knocks the coldsore out. Try it, but don't burn yourself. Hope I never get genital herpes.

  • instead of using a range to heat the spoon, i use burning hot water - and a butter knife. hold under tap for 1-2 seconds, quickly press against lip for 1-2 seconds, then back and forth... it'll burn, but shouldn't damage skin tissue.

  • I bought one of these last year.
I would get three break outs a year ranging from mild to crippling, I bough it online and saved some money. I am now able to live without worring about the breakouts.... NICE
