Season Shot is the name of a new type of live ammunition containing buckshot loaded with meat seasonings.
When you shoot a bird (with a real shotgun) the buckshot disintegrates inside the flesh and releases its flavorings.
The idea came about with two guys who wanted to find a solution towards people breaking their teeth on buckshot when eating pheasant or turkey.
Season Shot comes in varieties of Cajun, Lemon Pepper, Garlic, Teriyaki, and Honey Mustard. Supposedly, they won't be available on the market until 2007.
So, is this for real?
I did a search on Google to find out some more. Other bloggers had already picked it up, and apparently at least one reporter was convinced enough to mention it in print in The Birmingham News. I found another newspaper article that someone posted on a forum.
I tried calling the company's phone number, which was listed on their website, and I left them a message, and haven't heard back from them.
What do you think?

Point of order:
You don't shoot birds with buckshot, at least not if you want there to be anything left to eat. :)
buckshot = deer and similarly-sized creatures
birdshot = birds, clays
Pffft. Sounds like a hoax to me.
Sounds very much like a hoax to me to - the lack of any info regarding availability and the vague contact details. And the copy on the website all sounds a bit to jokey.
I did follow the link from their FAQ to the Game Fair 2007, and find that "Season Shot-Gerltom Medical Inc." are listed as one of the exhibitors.
See: http://www.gamefair.com/Vendors/exhibitors.htm
I can find no other reference to a "Gerltom Medical" on the internet, but there is a "Geritom Medical Inc.":
http://www.geritommedical.com/
This website appears to be that of a legit pharmaceutical firm. I can find no connection to Season Shot, aside from the fact that the phone numbers for both companies share the same area code (Minnesota ?).
Anyone else care to take over the investigation? Perhaps call up the Game Fair and/or Geritom Medical Inc.
I heard about this on NPR's "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me!" today 11-11-06.
Hey, it's on the internet and NPR; so it's got to be true!
I think this is a Hoax... but wouldnt it be so much easier on the wife to cook it.... ;)
I can't believe I fell for this AND told my bird-hunting boyfriend it was for real. Pretty good hoax though ... and person who commented on NPR telling about it is right on: if so, then it must be real.
Nothing like eating the flavored wound of a bird.
I wouldn't be surprised if this turned out to be real... but they've got a lot of information available that tells you nothing useful.
the websites set up really well, you dont usaully put that much effort into a site, and pay for it if your not going to get a profit return.
It's not a hoax. They haven't marketed the product yet and were premature to go public. References in gun journals say they originally were only going to sell the shot to reloaders. The website now says they will sell loaded shells. It is probably taking time to set up a contract with an ammunition manufacturer, working up loads, testing, etc. Quite a bit of preparation goes into the manufacture of a new type of shotshell load.
