by Steve
Wednesday, May 24, 2006

It's also "multi-purpose" because it includes a vice-like clamp that allows it to mount to the edge of a car window, or perhaps even fence tops.

Pierced Eyeglasses

by Steve
Monday, May 22, 2006

Pierced EyeglassesJames Sooy has developed a new pair of eyeglasses that mounts into the bridge of your nose, via piercing.

Dubbed, "Pierced Glasses", they offer people who are already cool about body piercings with a practical use for their love of body art.

He's working on bringing it to the consumer market. Read an interview with Sooy.

You think pierced glasses are are too extreme? James perhaps summed it best...
"Paying ... to have someone cut your eyes and shoot a laser in them (just so you don't have to wear glasses) seems extreme to me..."

A Camera That You Can Download

by Steve
Sunday, May 21, 2006

Linatree Pinhole CameraLinatree claims to have made the first free downloadable pinhole camera that you can print out, cut out, and assemble together. Check out their Flash animation instructions.

I remember doing something like this in elementary school, except it didn't look anything a like a "real" camera, at least nothing this fancy and intricate.

What kind of film does this camera use?
You can use a PAN film from Ilford or Neopan 100 from Fuji.
You can also use any 35 mm film.
Linatree is actually in the business of selling signed silver art prints by famous french photographers. This downloadable camera is perhaps a great way to attract attention.

Brake-Fast Doggie Bowl

by Steve
Friday, May 19, 2006

Brake-Fast Doggie BowlThe Brake-Fast Dog Food Bowl is a new invention designed to slow down a dog from eating too fast.

The three prongs sticking up from the bowl act as barriers to keep a dog from snatching up mouthfuls of dry or wet dog food.

It's marketed as a way to help prevent Gastric Dilatation/Volvulus (GDV), when a dog's stomach distends with air to the point that it goes into shock and possibly dies.

Interestingly, the bowl doesn't have a rubber base, and will slide across the floor. The manufacturer says this actually helps slow down the eating process.

It has a no-tip shape, is dishwasher safe, and comes in a 5-cup medium size.

$14.99

Bug Spray on a Pole

by Steve
Wednesday, May 17, 2006

Gotcha SprayerThe Gotcha Sprayer allows you to put a can of bug spray at the end of a long pole, and kill the little creepy crawlies from a safe distance.

It's probably best used for spraying wasps nests.

I remember having to crawl up on my roof to kill a colony of wasps. They were flying all over my house and yard, and they were building more nests. I had to do something. I bought some spray, and read the instructions. It said to wait until morning, while the wasps were docile.

So, I waited for sunrise, and crawled up there just as the sun starting peeking over the horizon. I made a practice attempt at walking as fast as I could to the ladder in case I needed to make a break for it. Then I gave them a good dowsing, and kept on spraying as long as they weren't flying. They dropped out of the nest as soon as the spray hit 'em.

Even their pupae fell out of the nest. I saw some of the tougher wasps trying to pick up a pupae and carry it off to safety. It was a sad day for them. I could hear Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings" playing in the distance. I kept telling myself, "Yeah, I got 'em! I got 'em!", just to keep myself from feeling bad.

Well, I guess this extension pole will let you kill a stinging squadron of buggers without having to witness the aftermath.

Lip Balm That You Wear

by Steve
Monday, May 15, 2006

CARE4LipzA export company called First Dutch Europe B.V. wants you to tell that you can now wear your lip balm.

Their product, CARE4Lipz, is a tiny container of lip balm that can attach to just about anything ... wrist watches, purses, belts, sunglasses, cell phones ... I imagine you could even wear it as a ring.

The lip balm comes in a variety of flavors, with SPF 15 or SPF 30. They also offer lip gloss in the same form factor. Personally, I think the container is worth more than what's inside.

Wanna put your company's logo on CARE4Lipz? They're doing private labeling too.

Folgers Stomach-Friendly Coffee

by Steve
Friday, May 12, 2006

Folgers Simply SmoothGet ready for a new category of coffee - stomach-friendly.

Proctor & Gamble introduces "Folgers Simply Smooth", claiming to be the first nationally available stomach-friendly coffee in the United States. They say that some 35-40 million Americans have decreased or eliminated their coffee consumption due to weak stomachs.

Or could it be just bad coffee?

So, what makes it stomach-friendly? They say they use a special selection of coffee beans, and then roast it under a carefully monitored process. When the beans reach a certain color, they halt the roasting process. This is supposed to reduce the levels of gastric-irritants.

Folgers Simply Smooth will be available in medium-roast regular and decaffeinated varieties beginning in May 2006 at mass merchandisers, grocery and drug stores nationwide.

Green Tea Drops for Fingernails

by Steve
Thursday, May 11, 2006

NutraNail green tea fingernail hardenerNutraNail contains green tea extract and claims that it will strengthen your fingernails.

The instructions say to apply it over the entire nail, cuticle and under the nail tip, and then massage into the nail until dry.

The company claims the antioxidants contained in green tea will fight off the free radicals that weaken nails. I didn't know free radicals made our nails weak. I thought fingernails already consisted of dead matter.

NutraNail also contains several other ingredients, such as Isododecane; C13-14 Isoparaffin; Hydrogenated Polydecene; Cyclomethicone; Dimethicone Crosspolymer-3; Diisopropyl Adipate; Tocopheryl Acetate; Retinyl Palmitate; Octyldodecanol; and Tetrahesyldecyl Ascorbate.

I don't know if its the green tea extract that hardens your nails, or something else.

by Steve
Tuesday, May 09, 2006

Bill of Rights - Security EditionBill of Rights - Security Edition is a copy of the Bill of the Rights (the first ten Constitutional Amendments), printed on a metal plate small enough to fit in your pocket.

As you walk through the security checkpoint at an airport, go ahead and give up your Rights by tossing it into the plastic bin.

If you take your rights through a metal detector, it will probably sound off an alarm, in which case a security officer may ask you to forfeit them.

$4.00 each.

Crispy Lettuce Wraps

by Steve
Monday, May 08, 2006

Crispy Lettuce WrapsPresident's Choice, a Canadian brand of food products, introduced new "Crispy Lettuce Wraps", leaves of hybrid lettuce for the purpose of making low-carb bread-free burgers.

Because so many carb-conscious people are using lettuce leaves in lieu of hamburger buns, Loblaws Inc., which owns the President's Choice brand, decided to sell lettuce leaves designed expressly for this purpose.

They claim it's a versatile cross between Romaine and Iceberg lettuce flexible enough for folding, but still crispy.

KISS Fragrance for Men

by Steve
Tuesday, May 02, 2006

Yes, KISS Fragrance for Men.

I have some questions about this.

First, I can't imagine what KISS Fragrance for Men might smell like. I realize it's just a way to sell more stink, but the idea of associating cologne with four sweaty guys with goth makeup doesn't sound sweet.

Two, I can't imagine a guy taking his date home and letting her see a bottle of KISS Fragance for Men in his medicine cabinet. That would give away too much information.

Threee, who the Hell still listens to KISS?

Gene Simmons, the front guy for KISS, thinks it's going to be a hit...
"KISS fragrances have the smell of success for us....and for all the men and women who will wear it. These fragrances hit all the right notes and will top the charts in no time."
Rock on.

Sideways Printed Books

by Steve
Tuesday, May 02, 2006

Sideways Printed BooksA book publisher has come up with the idea of printing text sideways on the page so that readers can lie in bed on their side and read at the same time.

They've republished all the old classics, Huckleberry Finn, Dracula, Wuthering Heights, ... all the stuff that's out of copyright.

It's supposed to relieve neck and back pain associated with reading normal books.

I agree, reading books are a big pain.
