The Plate Flipper is a device that hooks to your car's license plate, allowing it to flip down, and reveal a special message for the guy behind you.

Perfect for drivers in Los Angeles and Orange County who like to show off their vanity while weaving in and out of lanes in their BMWs.

I think what's needed is a programmable LED version, where at the push of a button you can display different messages.

I imagine it can also be used avoid paying tolls on toll roads, allowing you to evade the cameras.

  • And I imagine the first time you get pulled over for speeding or something and the cop is writing down your license plate number and notices this thing...off to jail for you :-)

  • Normally, you just pop a wheelie on a bike or let the tailgate down in a truck, but now everyone can dodge the toll with ease!

  • Not only is that item highly illegal in all 50 states, I'm surprised that the "not so intelligent" inventor is advertising this in the open!

I'm quite certain the company will be approached by the authorities, to cease and desist the production of this illicit item.

Manufacturing such a device and selling it for profit is a much bigger felony offense. Don't be surprised if you cannot contact the company soon to see if you can buy one.

  • Weaving is more or less impossible. Perhaps you meant the guys who like to sit in their car-payment-is-more-than-my-house-payment BMW's in a traffic jam in LA/Orange County.

  • The UK is the most CCTv watched country. There are now AUTOMATIC NUMBERPLATE RECOGNITION CAMERAS ANPR for short.
Regardless of the laws for tracking all vehicles we have the right not to be tracked. So a flip-down-plate is the way to go when nearing one of these invasive cameras that point at the front plate. ANPR cameras are tubular in shape with an aerial on the back linked via some network to a database in the UK.
I was stopped by a cop car asking why I was far from home after being "flagged" on their in-car ANPR camera. Rightly so I told them it's none of their business and became wise to avoiding detection on those cameras.
